For the smocking you need a fine, thin fabric such as satin or taffeta, for the rest of the outer pieces something stronger such as leatherette or similar. For the inner lining, simple cotton woven fabric works well. But of course you can always vary it.

This bag requires both hand and machine sewing. From a sewing point of view, the steps are quite simple and you can do them well even if you are a beginner. What could be a little trickier is combining different materials, as these can slip more easily when sewing and you therefore have to hold them tightly. So you should definitely have a little patience, then you will manage it well.
